Jone Davule, a gold medallist from the Pacific Games, is one of 11 male athletes nominated for the Sportsman of the Year award at the Fiji Sports Awards. Upon receiving the news of his nomination during the 2023 Fiji Sports Awards Nominees Presentation, the boxer expressed his astonishment and gratitude, describing himself as speechless.

At 28, Davule reflected on his boxing journey, noting that the experience has been both emotional and humbling. He attributes his success to his self-belief, the support from his management and coach, and his motivation, while also offering thanks to the Lord for his blessings.

Davule acknowledged that he never envisioned reaching such a level of success, but he remains committed to striving for even greater heights in the sport. “I never believed I was nominated for this category, and there is nothing I can say but to thank the Lord for what He has done for me. I never dreamt of achieving this, but I keep believing in myself as I believe there is more to come, and I want to continue boxing to achieve greater things,” he stated.

Despite undergoing a six-month rehabilitation program, Davule views this nomination as a chance to promote boxing on regional and international stages. He hopes to inspire young boxers by showing that dedication and belief can lead to remarkable achievements in sports.
