Boxer Jonathan Hill Eyes Title Shot with Labasa Showdown

Jonathan Hill is optimistic about extending his winning streak when he faces Labasa’s Rupeni Rokoratu in the South Pacific boxing promotion in Labasa next month.

“Preparation has been good and we’re always prepped, Winston (his younger brother) and I,” Hill said. “My aim in this fight is to knock out Rokoratu to improve my ranking.”

Hill is eyeing a title fight, conditional on his victory over Rokoratu. “This is the first time I’ll be fighting him (Rokoratu) and it’s almost like amateur boxing; we just go in and handle it in the ring,” he said. “My motivation to win the fight is my son.”

Hill mentioned that he did not study his opponent, choosing instead to focus on enhancing his own abilities and strength. “It’s been great having my younger brother Winston in my preparation, and I guess it makes my opponent wary of me,” he noted. “It will also be my first time fighting in Labasa.”

Hill secured his first professional win in the super middleweight division against Donasio Macedru at the Lewis Hill boxing promotions at Vodafone Arena in Suva last year. “I’m working on improving my fitness as I prepare for this fight with the goal of winning,” he said. “I wasn’t in the best shape for my last fight, but I got the job done.”

With the experience gained from his previous professional bout, Hill has his eyes set on the super middleweight title of Fiji and possibly the light heavyweight title as well. “After this fight, I will be going after the super middleweight title of Fiji, and maybe the light heavyweight title too,” he stated. “We’ll see whoever holds the title; I’ll be going after them.”
