Trials to assemble a strong East bowling team commenced vigorously at the Suva Bowling Club yesterday. Bowlers were seen preparing for an upcoming face-off against their West counterparts, scheduled for next weekend in Nadi. Phillip Lacey, president of the Suva Bowling Club, mentioned that the West team would enjoy a home advantage, as they will be competing on familiar turf with the fast greens of Nadi.

Despite the challenges posed by playing on their opponents’ home ground, Lacey noted the excellent condition of the bowling field as a reassuring factor for his team. With training sessions planned throughout the week leading up to their departure for Nadi, Lacey expressed his gratitude towards the dedicated bowlers who attended practice even when feeling under the weather. “It’s good to see a number of bowlers turn up. Even two who were sick came later; their commitment is heartwarming for the team,” he stated.

Lacey further acknowledged the unwavering support from sponsors Kontiki Finance, whose contribution has been instrumental in ensuring the club’s smooth operation and providing peace of mind for the players. The forthcoming competition will mark the conclusion of all bowling activities for the year, highlighting a significant milestone for the club.

In light of the preparations, there’s a sense of camaraderie and determination among the East bowlers, illustrating their resilience and passion for the sport. As they gear up for this pivotal competition, their commitment to training and mutual support bodes well for their performance on the green.

This event not only serves as a competitive clash but also symbolizes the spirit of sportsmanship and community that thrives within the bowling league.
