In the early hours of yesterday, a bouncer connected to a nightclub altercation in Suva has been taken into police custody. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu confirmed the ongoing investigation and the police’s efforts to round up individuals involved in the incident.
ACPO Driu emphasized the importance of allowing police to manage the situation and urged the public not to resort to vigilante behavior. He acknowledged that emotions are running high and advised those involved to remain calm and avoid escalating the situation. “Taking matters into your own hands won’t resolve anything; it will only make things worse,” he stated.
A team from the Totogo Police Station has been engaging with residents in Namatakula Village to gather statements from those who witnessed the altercation. Driu called on individuals involved to cooperate by providing information and evidence, and requested patience as the police conduct their investigation.
The police are vigilant in monitoring social media to prevent any further disturbances. Looking ahead, ACPO Driu reassured the community that local law enforcement remains committed to ensuring public safety in the New Year.
This situation highlights the critical role of law enforcement in maintaining peace in urban areas and the necessity for community cooperation during investigations. By allowing police to handle such conflicts, citizens can contribute to a safer environment for all.
