The Fiji Bitter Lomaiviti and Mataso 7s tournaments were officially launched yesterday at the Paradise Beverages Fiji Ltd headquarters in Walu Bay, Suva. The launch included the signing of sponsorship documents with officials and media in attendance.
Mark Spencer, the general manager of Paradise Beverages, expressed enthusiasm for contributing to the development of local sporting talent. He remarked on the commitment to foster rugby talent and create impactful opportunities in the community.
Isoa Lala, president of the Yalovata Rugby Club, which is organizing the Lomaiviti 7s, highlighted Fiji Bitter’s role in advancing community welfare through initiatives like the installation of 23 streetlights. He noted that this year’s tournament would also aid in the planning of two new bridges.
Additionally, the Mataso 7s tournament was announced, with James Vunituraga serving as the overall tournament director for the Mataso Nakorovou Rugby Club. He praised Fiji Bitter’s continued support and acknowledged the effort put forth by the organizers to make the tournaments a success. The broader objective includes constructing a new bridge for improved access to nearby communities, facilitating safer travel for residents, especially schoolchildren during inclement weather—following the viral video showing students precariously crossing a river.
The Mataso 7s tournament is scheduled for November 15-17 at Nadovu Park, Lautoka, while the Lomaiviti 7s will take place from November 21-23 at Nasau Park on Ovalau Island.
These tournaments not only serve as a platform for local rugby talent but also as a means to improve infrastructure and enhance community well-being. They represent an exciting opportunity for athletes and are a testament to the positive impact of corporate social responsibility in sports.
