The Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, emphasized the urgent need to boost the number of businesses owned by iTaukei individuals in Fiji, indicating that currently, only five percent of the nation’s businesses are operated by native Fijians. Speaking at the launch of two empowerment business projects in Naduri, Macuata, he called for increased support and encouragement to raise this percentage.
Mr. Vasu highlighted not only the necessity for institutional support but also a cultural shift, noting that there are instances where individuals undermine others’ success. He urged for a united effort to explore new opportunities and promote a culture that celebrates achievement among Fijians.
During his address at the opening of Korovou Homestay and Crumbs Bakery Café, he also shared insights regarding various projects planned for the northern region of Fiji, which aim to foster economic growth and community empowerment.
This initiative reflects a positive step towards economic inclusivity and may serve to inspire a new generation of iTaukei entrepreneurs who can contribute to Fiji’s overall economic landscape. By encouraging collaboration and celebrating local successes, this movement can potentially uplift many within the community and foster a spirit of entrepreneurship.
In summary, the focus on enhancing the representation of iTaukei individuals in the business landscape is crucial for fostering economic development and encouraging unity and success among Fijians.
