The Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, has emphasized the urgent need to boost the number of businesses owned by iTaukei people in Fiji. Speaking at the launch of two empowerment business initiatives in Naduri, Macuata, he revealed that native Fijians currently own only five percent of businesses in the country.

Minister Vasu has called for greater support and encouragement to enhance this figure, urging a shift in mindset among the community. He highlighted the unfortunate tendency for some individuals to undermine others who are achieving success.

He pointed out several factors contributing to the low number of iTaukei entrepreneurs and underscored the importance of unity and collaboration. Vasu suggested that exploring new opportunities together could help motivate Fijians to pursue success.

During the event, which celebrated the launch of the Korovou Homestay and Crumbs Bakery Café, he also mentioned that there are numerous projects planned for the North, aiming to further empower the local economy.

This initiative not only seeks to improve the economic landscape for iTaukei communities but also fosters collaborative efforts that can lead to greater success and resilience within the community. A united approach in entrepreneurship can pave the way for a brighter economic future for all Fijians.

In conclusion, the focus on increasing local business ownership among iTaukei people is a significant step towards empowerment and economic diversity in Fiji. With concerted efforts and support, there is hope for a thriving entrepreneurial environment that benefits everyone.
