The Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, has highlighted the importance of increasing the number of businesses owned by iTaukei people in Fiji, which currently stands at a mere five percent. Speaking at the launch of two business empowerment projects in Naduri, Macuata, Vasu emphasized the need for enhanced support and encouragement to uplift the entrepreneurial spirit among native Fijians.
He also pointed out the necessity for a change in mindset within the community, where competition should be viewed positively rather than leading to discouragement or sabotage among peers. Vasu identified several factors contributing to the low representation of iTaukei entrepreneurs and underscored the importance of unity and collaboration in seizing new opportunities for success.
During the event, which celebrated the opening of the Korovou Homestay and Crumbs Bakery Café, Vasu shared that several projects are being developed in the northern region to further empower local businesses.
