Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad announced an increased subsidy of $4.7 million for kidney dialysis in the 2025-2026 Budget to meet rising demand at private service providers. In addition, the government will continue providing a $4 million operating grant to Sai Prema Hospital, reinforcing the importance of the public-private partnership focused on delivering heart-related services to children.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader commitment to enhance healthcare access and affordability, reflecting the allocation of significant funds in previous budgets that included $540 million for the health sector. These allocations have supported operational needs for hospitals and expanded healthcare programs, including an earlier subsidy for dialysis patients that provided $3 million to maintain affordability for vital treatments.
The collaborative efforts with organizations like the Australian Government and financial institutions such as the Asian Development Bank and World Bank are envisioned to further strengthen health infrastructure in the region, contributing positively to the nation’s healthcare landscape.
Such financial support not only assists patients in need of critical medical care but also signifies a hopeful commitment by the government to improve overall health outcomes, ensuring that essential medical services remain accessible to those who need them most. By investing in healthcare like this, the government is fostering a healthier future for the community, particularly for vulnerable populations such as children.
