The Cabinet has given the green light for an Exchange of Notes with the Government of Japan and a Grant Funding Agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to secure $15 million in grant funding for Airports Fiji Pte Ltd.
In a statement yesterday, the Cabinet announced that under the Grant Funding Agreement, JICA will procure and install new aircraft surveillance systems at Nadi International Airport and Labasa Airport. Additionally, JICA will provide consultancy services aimed at enhancing aviation safety.
The funding will also be used to acquire five fire trucks for Nausori, Labasa, Savusavu, and Matei Airports and three rescue boats for Nadi International Airport.
Public Service Broadcast
Cabinet has decided to open up public service broadcasting to other media organizations starting from the next financial year.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, in a statement, confirmed that this decision was made after Cabinet’s 11th and 12th meetings held on July 2 and 15, 2024.
Historically, the government had exclusively partnered with Fiji Broadcasting Corporation for public service broadcasting through radio and TV. The latest move aims to ensure fairness and create a level playing field in the media industry.
Rabuka emphasized that the People’s Coalition Government plans to engage a variety of service providers to ensure wider dissemination on issues of public interest and to foster fair competition in the media industry.
