The Fiji Bitter Sevens Series will continue to reward teams with bonus points during its final legs, as recently announced at the launch of the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s. This revelation came from Alfaio Tekavei, the sponsorship and events specialist for Fiji Bitter, during a gathering at the Paradise Beverages Fiji Limited offices in Suva.
Tekavei emphasized that teams still in contention for the series championship have three major tournaments remaining: the Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s, the Nawaka 7s, and the Marist 7s. “Bonus points await those willing to push for a top position,” he noted, reiterating the significance of maintaining discipline to earn these rewards. The bonus points initiative, introduced during the 2021 Marist 7s, aims to encourage teams to avoid penalties throughout pool matches.
Aside from the bonus points, Marist Rugby Club President Lawrence Tikaram announced that the first 24 teams to complete their registration will receive five complimentary grandstand tickets for the tournament, adding an extra incentive for participation.
The upcoming Marist 7s, now in its 49th year, marks a pivotal moment in the Fiji Bitter 7s series, showcasing not only competitive talent but also the vibrant rugby culture in Fiji. With grassroots engagement being emphasized, participants can look forward to an exciting season ahead.
The tournament, set to take place from March 20 to 22 at the HFC Bank Stadium, anticipates a large turnout and a thrilling atmosphere. The continued emphasis on bonus points reflects Fiji Bitter’s dedication to fostering a spirited rugby community, potentially inspiring future generations of players while promoting unity and healthy competition among teams.
As interest in the series grows, there’s a hopeful outlook for the development of rugby in Fiji, aligning perfectly with community values. The Marist 7s stands as a celebration of local talent and the enduring spirit of rugby within the region.
