Fiji Bitter has announced that it will continue to distribute bonus points to teams in the Fiji Bitter Sevens Series during its final tournaments. This decision was made public at the launch of the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s, hosted by Alfaio Tekavei, the sponsorship and events specialist for Fiji Bitter, at the Paradise Beverages headquarters in Walu Bay, Suva.
Tekavei encouraged teams to aim for the top as they compete in the remaining three major tournaments: the Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s, the Nawaka 7s, and the Marist 7s. These bonus points were established to incentivize good behavior on the field by rewarding teams that avoid disciplinary cards during pool matches, a system first introduced in the 2021 Marist 7s. This past tournament saw a successful implementation of these bonus points, which were awarded recently during the Wairiki 7s.
In addition to the continued emphasis on bonus points, Lawrence Tikaram, president of the Marist Rugby Club, shared details about registration incentives. The first 24 teams to register will receive complimentary grandstand tickets for the entire tournament.
The ongoing promotion of bonus points reflects Fiji Bitter’s commitment not only to competitive excellence but also to the broader development of rugby in the Fiji community. With rich local participation and engaging events lined up, the Marist 7s is set to celebrate its vibrant rugby culture while promising an exciting season ahead.
As community interest grows in these tournaments, this initiative shines a light on the positive impacts of rugby in Fiji and the potential it has to foster future talent and unity among participants.
