Residents of Newtown, Cuvu, Nadroga, are reeling after the body of community member Ravnit Dass, 32, was discovered floating in Cuvu River yesterday. Dass, a mechanic, was found by two farmers working on their plantations near the river.

According to his father, Rattan Kumar, 66, Dass was last seen on Monday night. “He came home around 7 p.m. on Monday, dropped off his tools, and said he was going to a friend’s house,” Kumar recalled. “That was the last time I saw him until his body was discovered today.”

Nadroga Navosa Advisory Council chairman Subrail Narayan expressed the community’s sense of loss. “He used to fix my vehicle. He was smart, hardworking, and had a kind heart,” Narayan said.

Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu reported that the police were notified around midday. “Police managed to identify the deceased male, and further details will be released as the investigation continues,” Bautolu stated.

Funeral arrangements will commence following the completion of a post-mortem examination.
