Former Fiji Sevens star Sireli Bobo has called on players to elevate their performance ahead of the highly anticipated second leg of the HSBC Sevens Series. Known for his remarkable speed and agility, Bobo made a name for himself with the Fiji team during the early 2000s, leaving a lasting impact on the sport.
Now serving as a coach within the Fiji Sports Grassroots Development Programme, Bobo has voiced his full support for the Fiji Airways Men’s Sevens team head coach, Osea Kolinisau. Bobo praised Kolinisau’s efforts, stating, “I think Kolinisau has done a really good job with the national sevens team. The onus is now on the players to step up and put Kolinisau’s plan into action.”
He emphasized the importance of player accountability, asserting that no team enters the HSBC series with the mindset of losing. While acknowledging the coaches’ preparation, he insisted that the ultimate outcomes on the field rest with the players. “The coach has done everything he can. He knows what needs to be done after the first series and they are already working on it, but it’s up to the players to implement what Kolinisau has planned during training,” Bobo explained.
With the second leg approaching, Bobo pointed out that a strong defensive strategy will be crucial for Fiji’s success in the upcoming matches. He remarked, “Defence is something the team really needs to work on, and I know Oscar has already planned for that. But the responsibility now lies with the players.” He further noted, “Kolinisau won’t be out there making the tackles; the boys need to put his plan into action and trust his strategy.”
Excitement builds as the tournament kicks off tomorrow at Sigatoka’s Lawaqa Park, with fans eager to see how the team will respond to Bobo’s call for a more collaborative effort on the field. With renewed focus and determination, Fiji’s players look set to aim for victory and showcase their skills to the world.
