The Fiji Corrections Service has committed to addressing drainage issues raised by the residents of Naqiliso in Davuilevu, following complaints about wastewater flooding parts of the settlement. Locals allege that contractors involved in a Corrections project have obstructed two major drainage outlets, leading to the pooling of wastewater from several homes for over three days. This situation has disrupted roads and access points, prompting concerns about unpleasant odors and potential health risks among families in the area.

In response to these urgent concerns, the community is calling for immediate action to clear the blocked drains and restore proper drainage flow. Senior Communications Officer Jone Sigavou confirmed that efforts are in progress to expand cemetery sites near the settlement to accommodate future needs over the next seven years. He assured that the Corrections Service would engage with the contractors responsible to find a resolution to the drainage problems raised by residents.

This situation highlights the importance of infrastructure development in handling community needs and environmental safety. Prompt remedial action could not only alleviate the current distress experienced by residents but also build trust and enhance relations between the community and the Fiji Corrections Service.
