Opposition member Mosese Bulitavu has announced that the Opposition MPs forming Bloc 9 intend to support Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s nomination for the position of President. Mr. Bulitavu stated, “Whoever the Prime Minister nominates, our stance is clear; we will support.” He expressed certainty about their unity, affirming that “the nine of us will support the PM.”
According to Section 83 of the Constitution, the qualifications for presidential nomination include requirements that the individual must have a distinguished career in any field of national or international life, hold only Fijian citizenship, not be a member or hold any office in a political party, not be a candidate for any other public office, and not have been convicted of any criminal offense within the six years prior to nomination.
