The Black Pearls volleyball team from Kinoya is striving to enhance the exposure and experience of their young athletes by competing in the Fiji volleyball national club championships, which are being held at the National Netball Center in Laucala, Suva.

The team has shown impressive performance throughout the tournament, winning all their pool matches, including a significant victory over Black Label from Nausori with set scores of 16-14, 15-8, and 15-10.

Captain Sally Aitcheson spoke about the difficulties the team faced while preparing for the tournament, especially because the players are from various locations, which necessitated individual training regimes. “Preparations coming to the competition were kind of tough, since we all stay in different locations. We did our own training and got together on the third day before the competition started. It’s great to see that we did well,” Aitcheson said.

Despite the challenges, the team united just before the tournament and delivered commendable performances, featuring both national volleyball representatives and current netball players, showcasing their skills even in the absence of the netball players on the final day.

The main goal of the Black Pearls team is to provide their young players with meaningful experience in competitive settings, preparing them for future challenges. Reflecting on their past performance in the finals of the 2023 tournament where they did not succeed, the team has worked hard to improve their results in this recent competition.

In light of financial difficulties that affected their preparation, the team extended their gratitude to their supporters for their consistency and encouragement, underscoring the community support that plays a crucial role in their journey.

This positive showing by the Black Pearls highlights not only their growth and resilience as a team but also the potential of nurturing young talent in the sport. With continued effort and community support, they are paving the way for future successes in Fiji volleyball.
