“Biman Urges Re-Engagement of Dropout Students”

Students who have dropped out of school will be given an opportunity to continue their education. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad highlighted in the Parliament’s Committee of Supply sitting last week that a significant number of these dropouts are iTaukei students.

“What the studies show from the presentations by the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs and the Ministry of Education, particularly regarding educational awareness, is the importance of collaborating with the Ministry of Education on TELS, TVET, and higher educational institutions to provide specialized courses for those who have fallen out of form four, five, and six tracks,” Prof. Prasad said.

“Many of them, most of them, are iTaukei students. Essentially, the discussion focused on getting them back into the system to provide them with training. Contrary to previous outcomes, many end up at institutions like Pacific Polytech,” he added.

Prof. Prasad emphasized the need for a broader awareness campaign to support this initiative. He acknowledged that the $300,000 allocated for the education awareness program is not a large sum, but expects that the benefits will be significantly impactful.
