Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, has urged Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry to be truthful and to provide evidence regarding his alleged charges by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) for filing false statutory declarations with the Registrar of Political Parties.
When asked for his thoughts on Chaudhry’s assertions, Prof Prasad encouraged inquiry into the accuracy of Chaudhry’s statements, emphasizing the need for credible sources. Chaudhry has stated that a Board of Inquiry will clarify the situation.
Earlier, Prof Prasad mentioned to a local newspaper that his legal team has already reached out to FICAC to challenge the basis of any charges against him. Efforts to obtain a response from FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali were unsuccessful.
