Former national rugby 7s player Semi Kunatani has highlighted significant changes in the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s rugby team under the new leadership of head coach Osea Kolinisau. Kunatani, known for his powerful playing style, shared his insights during an interview following his team’s impressive 34-5 victory against Gold Coast Senibiau in the cup final of the Mick’s Fiji Tours & Transfers Vatulele 7s tournament held at the Vatulele District School.

Kunatani noted the substantial transformation within the national 7s team, expressing gratitude for the efforts made by Kolinisau to alleviate a troubling 22-match losing streak. While celebrating the improvements, Kunatani acknowledged the challenges that still lie ahead for the team to achieve greater success.

His remarks resonate with those of former teammate Jerry Tuwai, who earlier shared similar sentiments regarding the team’s progress during the Dubai 7s. Tuwai pointed out the noticeable advancements in the team’s culture, systems, and overall performance.

All three players, Kunatani, Kolinisau, and Tuwai, were instrumental in securing Fiji’s first gold medal in rugby at the 2016 Rio Olympics, a foundation that they hope to build upon as the team continues its journey towards improvement and victory.

This article reflects not only the challenges faced by the Fiji men’s rugby team but also the promising potential for growth and success under Kolinisau’s guidance. The dedicated efforts of the players and coaching staff signify a hopeful resurgence for Fiji rugby on the international stage.
