A 43-year-old woman appeared at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court today, facing charges of allegedly obtaining financial advantage by deception through a false Facebook advertisement.
The accused reportedly convinced the victim to send money to secure an investment, initially receiving $80. She then allegedly requested an additional $200, promising a profit of $200 in return.
The victim grew suspicious, contacted her mobile service provider, and reported the matter to the Tavua Police Station.
The accused has been charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage by deception.
The public is advised against sending money without verifying the details of the individual or institution they claim to represent. Most entities do not conduct business via phone or messaging platforms, and caution is urged when receiving such requests online.
