Beware: Deception Through Facebook Ads

A 43-year-old woman was presented at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court today, facing charges of allegedly obtaining financial advantage by deception through a false Facebook advertisement.

The accused reportedly asked the victim to send money to secure an investment, resulting in the victim sending $80.

Subsequently, the accused allegedly requested an additional $200 to deliver a promised profit of $200.

The victim grew suspicious, contacted their mobile service provider, and filed a report at the Tavua Police Station.

The accused has been charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage by deception.

Members of the public are advised not to send money without first verifying the credentials of the individual or organization they purport to represent.

Most reputable entities do not conduct business via phone or messaging platforms, and caution is urged when responding to such online solicitations.
