Ben Volavola Takes Flight: Leicester Tigers Newest Signing

Former Flying Fijians flyhalf Ben Volavola has joined the Leicester Tigers senior men’s squad for the 2024/25 season, as announced by the club that competes in Premiership Rugby on Monday. The player, originally from Tailevu, is versatile, capable of playing both flyhalf and fullback.

Volavola boasts a robust professional career, having played over 200 games, which includes 38 Test caps and participation in two Rugby World Cups with Fiji. Over the past seven seasons, he has played in France for clubs including Racing 92, Perpignan, and most recently, Agen.

Leicester Tigers head coach Michael Cheika expressed his satisfaction in bringing Volavola on board, highlighting the player’s valuable experience in northern-hemisphere rugby and at the international level. “Ben’s knowledge from his time in France is a plus, and his international experience is invaluable. I know he’s a man of good character and will add value to our environment,” Cheika stated.

Volavola shared his enthusiasm about joining the club, saying he has been awaiting the right moment to make this move. “I am honoured and excited to join this club and this talented group. I jumped at the chance to come to Leicester and I’m excited to see what we can do this season,” he remarked.

Born in Sydney, Australia, Volavola first made his mark with the NSW Waratahs senior squad under the coaching of Michael Cheika, after representing the Australia U20s at the 2011 Junior World Championships.
