Breast cancer represents more than just statistics; it reflects stories that deeply affect families, friends, and communities, according to former tertiary lecturer Akosita Toga.
Ms. Toga spoke at the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education on Friday, during the institution’s Picktober and Diwali celebration. She emphasized that no one should face breast cancer alone and encouraged nursing students and staff to promote the breast health care services available in Fiji.
“Breast cancer affects countless lives, including our mothers, sisters, friends, and ourselves. No one should fight cancer in isolation,” Ms. Toga stated. She highlighted that early detection and proper treatment are crucial in preventing breast cancer, urging students to raise awareness about these issues.
October is recognized globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer. The month serves to stress the significance of early detection, timely diagnosis, comprehensive treatment, and the importance of supporting individuals living with cancer.
