Breast cancer is not merely a statistic; each statistic represents a reality that affects families, friends, and communities, according to former tertiary lecturer Akosita Toga.
Ms. Toga addressed attendees at the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education during the institution’s Picktober and Diwali celebration on Friday. She emphasized that no individual should have to fight breast cancer in isolation and urged nursing students and faculty to promote the breast health care services available in Fiji.
“Breast cancer impacts countless lives including our mothers, sisters, friends, and even ourselves. No one should face cancer alone,” Ms. Toga stated. She informed the students that early detection and appropriate treatment are vital in preventing breast cancer, highlighting the necessity of raising awareness regarding this issue.
October serves as Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), a global initiative aimed at increasing awareness about breast cancer. The month focuses on the significance of early detection, timely diagnosis, comprehensive treatment, and the importance of supporting those living with cancer.
