The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) is emphasizing the importance of health checks for elderly individuals and those with pre-existing medical conditions before undertaking long-distance sea travel. This reminder comes in light of a tragic incident involving the death of an elderly man at the Natovi Jetty.

MSAF has expressed its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, clarifying that the incident did not occur on a vessel but serves as a critical reminder about the significance of maintaining health prior to traveling.

With the current hot and humid weather conditions, the Authority is urging the public to exercise additional caution. They advise travelers to remain hydrated and consume ample amounts of water before and during their journeys.

Furthermore, MSAF is committed to collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance safety and wellbeing within Fiji’s maritime sector. The organization will continue to disseminate vital messages aimed at safeguarding vulnerable individuals as they travel. By prioritizing health and safety, the community can work together to ensure safer maritime experiences for all.
