Service providers for the recent Miss Universe Fiji 2024 pageant are expressing frustrations as they await payment for their services. Despite the event, which took place over three days at The Pearl South Pacific Beach Resort, there are outstanding bills that have yet to be settled.
One such provider, Tracey Ann Farrington, who operates a boutique in Nadi and served as the master of ceremonies on the crowning night, highlighted the challenges faced by small businesses. Farrington, who provided clothing for the contestants and judges, voiced her concerns about the non-payment situation, stating that she received a concerning message from a judge regarding the owed money.
Farrington noted her confusion over being directed to a Gmail address to settle her dues, especially after the judge mentioned resigning due to concerns about payment issues. She emphasized that communication should come from an official Miss Universe domain rather than a personal email.
Attempts to contact Paris Jade, the national director for Miss Universe Fiji, went unanswered at the time of this report. Additionally, there has been no response from the Miss Universe Organisation regarding these claims.
Last week, Miss Universe Fiji extended apologies regarding disputes over the rightful winner of the pageant, as Nadine Roberts raised issues with the judging process after being overlooked for the crown. The Miss Universe Organisation, however, supported Manshika Prasad as the official winner.
In light of the controversy, Miss Universe Fiji has requested the Miss Universe Global Organisation to select a representative for Fiji in 2024. They expressed hope that the upcoming events could secure new funding and ensure better management, aiming for a larger and more successful presentation in the future. Lux Projects Bali, the licensee for Miss Universe Fiji 2024, stated their commitment to overcoming past challenges to better promote Fiji on a global scale and support young Fijian women in representing their country.
