Beauty Pageant Corruption? Fiji Withdraws Support Amid Controversy

Miss Universe Fiji has announced that it is withdrawing its funding and has called for a comprehensive investigation into the event organizers following allegations concerning an incorrect winner. The Lux Bali Project, which holds the licensing for Miss Universe Fiji 2024, returned to the country this year after a 43-year absence.

Questions arose regarding the crowning of Manshika Prasad, prompting Lux Projects Bali to insist that the selection process for judges should be undertaken by the licensee.

Initially, there were plans for a multi-year investment to promote Fiji in the prestigious beauty pageant, aiming to enhance the country’s representation on the global stage. However, the organization stated that due to the controversy surrounding the crowning of the wrong winner, along with the reputational damage linked to the event organizers’ actions, the Board decided to withdraw all future financial support.

Furthermore, Miss Universe Fiji is demanding a thorough investigation into the practices of the contracted organizers, particularly concerning their choice of judges. The organization raised concerns that nearly all judges were closely related to the organizers, with only one independent judge representing Miss Universe Fiji. This structure allegedly led to discriminatory outcomes against native Fijian contestants, favoring a Fiji Indian title holder potentially to secure profitable global sponsorships and business deals, ultimately harming the Miss Universe Fiji brand.
