The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is raising awareness about the hidden dangers of driver fatigue on Fiji’s roads, highlighting this risk as particularly significant during the holiday travel season. With many families embarking on long-distance journeys, the potential for accidents due to tired driving increases dramatically.

According to the LTA, fatigued drivers face serious impediments, such as delayed reaction times and impaired judgment. Additionally, these drivers may suddenly fall into micro-sleeps, posing substantial dangers to themselves and others on the road.

To combat this issue, the LTA is encouraging motorists to take regular breaks during long trips, collaborate with others to share driving responsibilities, and to cease driving when they begin to feel drowsy.

The Authority emphasizes that safety should always take precedence over punctuality, particularly during the festive season when road travel is at its peak. They urge everyone to prioritize arriving at their destination safely, rather than rushing to get there on time.
