Staff members from South Sea Cruises recently participated in a beach clean-up at Wailoaloa Beach in Nadi, coinciding with World Earth Day. Under the leadership of their people and culture general manager, Alalaini Naqoli, the initiative attracted employees from various departments and even engaged visitors to the beach, emphasizing community involvement.

In just one hour, the team successfully removed over 110 kilograms of waste, which included glass bottles, plastic packaging, foam, and aluminum cans. The collected waste was meticulously sorted into categories to identify the predominant types of pollution affecting the local coastline, with glass and plastic waste being the most frequently recovered items.

Naqoli pointed out the initiative’s dual purpose: not only did it clean the beach but it also raised awareness about pressing environmental issues such as pollution and the necessity of better waste management practices. The clean-up efforts left a noticeable impact on the beach, illustrating the urgent need for community engagement in environmental stewardship.

The event concluded on a positive note, as participants enjoyed refreshments and a friendly volleyball game, which fostered camaraderie and community spirit. Commenting on the broader objective, Naqoli reaffirmed SSCG’s commitment to sustainability and protecting the ocean resources vital to Fiji’s way of life and tourism.

Similar clean-up efforts across Fiji highlight a growing public commitment to environmental preservation, showcasing how collective action can lead to significant positive change. As communities come together for such initiatives, there’s hope for a cleaner and more sustainable future for Fiji’s beautiful coastlines.
