Beach Celebrations Shine Through Gloomy Weather in Lautoka

Despite overcast skies, the people of Lautoka embraced the New Year with open arms, gathering at local beaches and parks to celebrate. Long lines of vehicles were observed at Lomolomo Beach, where families flocked to enjoy the festive occasion.

Natokawaqa resident Waisea Nawasoni expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate with his overseas relatives and grandchildren, sharing that they had spent Christmas in Lautoka and decided to continue the celebrations into the New Year.

Ifran Ali Sahib and his extended family arrived at the beach early, equipped with a feast including lamb chops and sausages, indicative of the festive spirit shared among multiple families at the seaside.

In another show of community spirit, the Nayavu Women’s Club from Wainibuka took a chartered bus for a scenic road trip, leaving early in the morning. Club member Mere Vunirewa noted that 48 women participated in the outing, which included a stop at Marine Drive for lunch and planned visits to Fulton College and Yadua sand dunes.

This gathering reflects a sense of togetherness and appreciation for nature, with families enjoying food, laughter, and each other’s company as they welcome the New Year.

Overall, the celebratory atmosphere despite the weather highlights the resilient spirit of the community, showcasing the joy of family bonds and shared experiences. As people come together to start the year on a positive note, it sets an uplifting tone for the months ahead.
