Bayern Munich has officially completed the acquisition of Colombian winger Luis Diaz from Liverpool on a four-year deal, as confirmed by the Bundesliga club on Wednesday. Although the financial specifics of the transfer were not disclosed, reports from British media suggest that the transfer fee is approximately 75 million euros (around $86.67 million), making Diaz one of the higher-profile signings for the club.
Previously contracted with Liverpool until June 2027, Diaz made his move to Liverpool from Porto in January 2022, for a reported fee of about 50 million euros. Reflecting on his time at Liverpool, Diaz expressed his gratitude in a heartfelt Instagram post, stating, “Three years and a half that I’ll treasure forever.” He acknowledged the incredible relationships he built during his tenure, particularly highlighting the support from fans, teammates, and coaching staff.
He shared a poignant note about his former teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away in a car accident earlier this month. Diaz stated, “It would have been the perfect goodbye if we hadn’t lost one of ours in such a tragic way,” emphasizing the emotional weight of his departure.
During his four seasons with Liverpool, Diaz made an impressive 148 appearances, netting 41 goals and providing 23 assists. His standout performance was instrumental in Liverpool’s successful campaign in securing their 20th English top-flight title last season, where he contributed 13 goals and 7 assists. Additionally, he played a crucial role in Liverpool’s victories in the FA Cup in 2022 and the League Cup in both 2022 and 2024.
