MUNICH, Germany – Bayern Munich faces the challenge of replacing injured defender Sacha Boey in their upcoming Champions League match against Dinamo Zagreb. Coach Vincent Kompany addressed the situation on Monday, emphasizing the urgency to adapt as they begin their quest for the title in their home stadium.
Boey had surgery on his left knee due to a meniscus injury sustained during training on Sunday, and he is expected to be out for several weeks, as confirmed by the club.
“We have considered how to fill in for Sacha for tomorrow’s game, and we have solutions,” Kompany stated during a press conference ahead of Tuesday’s match. “It is unfortunate for Sacha, as he was performing well, and I hope for his speedy recovery.”
With Bayern sitting atop the Bundesliga after three consecutive wins, they aim to commence their Champions League journey with aspirations of reaching the final scheduled at the Allianz Arena in Munich in May 2025.
This match will mark Kompany’s first appearance as a coach in the Champions League after taking over Bayern this season. “The dream is to play in the final next year in Munich. Our fans can hold on to that dream,” he added. “It’s crucial for us to demonstrate our abilities on the field tomorrow.”
He underscored the importance of winning the match, expressing, “We have a challenging game ahead, and it is essential to perform well. We hope our supporters can continue to dream, and we require complete focus from the first to the last minute.”
