Baulevu High School is off to an impressive beginning at the 2025 Extra Supermarket Fiji Southern Secondary School Futsal Championship, achieving notable results in both the under-16 and under-18 divisions.
In their opening matches, the U16 team faced a challenging start against International Secondary School, which resulted in a thrilling 4-4 draw. However, they bounced back to deliver a decisive 5-0 victory over Gospel High School. Similarly, the U18 team maintained the positive momentum, securing a solid 2-0 win against LDS Church College.
Ashmeeta Lingam, head of the Physical Education, Music, and Health Education (PEMAC) department, expressed her pride in the team’s performance, particularly considering this was their first game of the season on a hard court. “The boys have been preparing well, though they haven’t played on this type of hard court before,” she remarked, emphasizing their ability to adapt to new conditions. Lingam also mentioned their goal of reaching the semi-finals again this year, following last year’s achievement of making it to the U16 semi-finals.
Discipline holds a critical place in Baulevu High’s philosophy, with Lingam underscoring the significance of proper conduct both on and off the field. “Before winning, we focus on attitude and discipline. We check their attire, hairstyles, and overall behavior to ensure they represent the school well,” she noted.
As Baulevu High School progresses in the championship, optimism surrounds the team’s potential for further success. Their strong start not only promises exciting matches in the upcoming rounds but also highlights the increasing interest and investment in youth futsal in Fiji, promoting values like teamwork, discipline, and personal development.
With this promising foundation, Baulevu High appears well-positioned to make a significant impact in the tournament while inspiring hope for future achievements.
