Baulevu High School has made an impressive start at the 2025 Extra Supermarket Fiji Southern Secondary School Futsal Championship by achieving positive results in both the under-16 and under-18 categories.
In their first matches, the U16 team initially faced International Secondary School, ending in a thrilling 4-4 draw, and then showcased their dominance with a 5-0 victory over Gospel High School. The U18 team continued the momentum with a solid 2-0 win against LDS Church College.
Ashmeeta Lingam, the head of the Physical Education, Music, and Health Education (PEMAC) department at Baulevu High, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, especially considering it was their first outing on the hard court this season. “The boys have been preparing well, though they haven’t played on this type of hard court before,” she noted, highlighting their adjustment to the new conditions. Lingam also mentioned that the school’s goal is to reach the semi-finals again this year and to build upon last year’s U16 semi-final achievement.
Discipline remains a cornerstone of Baulevu High’s ethos, with Lingam emphasizing the importance of proper conduct both on and off the field. “Before winning, we focus on attitude and discipline. We check their attire, hairstyles, and overall behavior to ensure they represent the school well,” she said.
As Baulevu High School continues its campaign in the next round of the championship, optimism surrounds the team’s potential to excel further. Their strong start not only promises engaging matches ahead but also reflects the growing interest and investment in youth futsal in Fiji, which fosters teamwork, discipline, and personal development.
With this progress, Baulevu High looks poised to make a significant impact in the tournament, inspiring hopes for future successes.
