BAU House emerged triumphant at the Draiba Primary School inter-house athletics competition held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday. With an impressive count of 19 gold, 13 silver, and 16 bronze medals, BAU managed to clinch victory. Rewa House followed in second place, amassing 13 gold, 16 silver, and 7 bronze medals. Tovata secured the third position with 14 gold, 11 silver, and 15 bronze, while Verata finished last with 7 gold, 13 silver, and 18 bronze medals.
The event’s success was lauded by meet manager Aporosa Tamani, who highlighted the competition as excellent preparation for the upcoming Suva Zone One meet slated for week six. Tamani expressed satisfaction with how the event unfolded, noting that it was not only a sporting event but also an enjoyable day for the students outside the classroom. The participation of 700 students marked a significant increase from the previous year, showcasing the growing enthusiasm for athletics.
New this year was the inclusion of Year 1 students, aimed at fostering early development and enjoyment of sports among the young participants. As the school sets its sights on future competitions, including the Suva Zone One meet and the Fiji Primary School Athletics meet in week 12, Tamani emphasized the importance of early preparation and readiness to face tough competition.
Acknowledging the unwavering support from parents and teachers, Tamani underscored the positive impact such backing has on the students’ overall experience and performance. Last year, Draiba Primary School achieved notable success by winning the overall girls’ title and being recognized as the overall winners for Suva Zone One, establishing a legacy they aim to uphold.
With a strong focus on maintaining this winning streak, Draiba Primary School’s dedication to nurturing athletic talent is evident in its structured preparation approach. These efforts not only position the students for success in sporting events but also promote personal growth and team camaraderie, vital elements in the holistic development of young athletes.
Such school events hold significant importance beyond competition, fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, and a strong school community spirit, which can drive positive outcomes both on and off the field.
