More than 1,000 athletes from 18 schools are set to compete at the Triple N Zone Athletics competition taking place at the HFC Bank Stadium over the next two days. Zone Delegate Joe Daunabou highlighted a notable increase in athlete participation this year, indicating that the competition is expected to be fiercer than last year’s.
Daunabou noted that smaller schools like Nakasi High School managed to challenge larger institutions in past competitions, and he anticipates that other smaller schools will also perform strongly this time around. “We’re expecting high intensity competition this year,” he remarked, reflecting on the competitive spirit exhibited last year between schools like Lelean and Nakasi in the boys’ division, and ACS versus Sila Central in the girls’ division.
He urged students, parents, and alumni to come and support their respective schools, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in fostering a thriving athletic environment. The Triple N Zone competition will be broadcast live on FBC Sports, making it accessible for those who cannot attend.
This event not only highlights the growth and enthusiasm within school athletics but also serves as a precursor to the National Championship Coca-Cola Games scheduled for April 24-26 at the same venue. The increased participation signifies a bright future for athletics in Fiji, fostering a culture of competition, camaraderie, and community support among schools.
As students gear up for this exhilarating competition, the commitment from schools and families reinforces the nurturing environment necessary for developing athletic talent and promoting a healthy lifestyle among the youth.
