“Battle of the Mountains: RSMS Athletes Gear Up for Glory!”

Ratu Sukuna Memorial School (RSMS) athletes are eagerly preparing for the upcoming zone meet and the Fiji Finals after a spirited inter-house competition held at the HFC Bank Stadium. Dubbed the “Battle of the Mountains,” this year’s event featured over 200 athletes, providing an excellent platform for showcasing talent and vying for selection.

The competition saw four houses—Korobasaga (red) from Namosi, Uluiqalau (blue) from Taveuni, Setura (yellow) from Bua, and Nakauvadra (green) from Ra—compete fiercely in various track and field events. Notably, deputy head girl Loata Bau Lewageena shone brightly, continuing her success from the 50th New Zealand Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships, where she won gold in javelin last year. Loata also set new records in javelin and discus during the inter-house competition, showcasing her exceptional talent.

Vice Principal Kuini Lebobo Vitukawalu spoke highly of the competition’s significance, noting the school’s aspiration for several athletes to win gold medals at the Fiji Finals. “We have a few students with the potential to win gold medals at the Fiji Finals, and we are banking on them to perform well at the zone meet,” she stated. She praised the students’ sportsmanship and team spirit and extended her gratitude to parents, teachers, and Fiji National University (FNU) students for their support in organizing the event.

Similar events at other schools, such as Lelean Memorial School and Dilkusha Methodist High School, also highlight the emphasis on preparing for larger competitions, showcasing the vibrant athletic culture across Fijian schools. Both schools have found success in fostering teamwork, personal development, and community support through inter-house competitions, which serve as critical training grounds for young athletes.

As RSMS awaits the final confirmation of the inter-house competition champions, the school remains dedicated to nurturing talent and preparing its students for success on the national stage. With such enthusiasm and spirit, there is significant hope that these athletes will excel and continue to build a robust athletics culture in Fiji.
