The Fiji Police Blues rugby team is gearing up to defend its title in the much-anticipated 2024 Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl clash against the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) today at the HFC Bank National Stadium in Suva. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mesake Waqa, who also serves as the President of Police Rugby, expressed confidence that the team is well-prepared to retain the prestigious trophy.
Waqa emphasized the team’s resolve to win, stating, “Guided by the acting commissioner of police’s directive, our goal is clear: to win and bring the Tanoa back to Nasova.” He articulated that the players are driven by their passion to succeed not only for themselves but also for their loyal supporters and for the legacy of the Fiji Police Force, which spans an impressive 150 years.
The buildup to the match has been positive, with various Police teams securing victories throughout the week, which has helped boost the morale within the squad. However, Waqa acknowledged that the RFMF will present a formidable challenge, with both teams having prepared rigorously for this showdown. He mentioned, “We know that the RFMF will be equally determined to win tomorrow. No team trains to lose. The boys have been reminded to stay composed and disciplined because discipline will be key to winning the game.”
The Police Blues are urging their fans to turn out in large numbers to support them as they prepare to face their traditional rivals. As defending champions, the team aims to uphold their winning streak, while the RFMF seeks to reclaim the coveted Tanoa.
The highly-anticipated match is scheduled for 3 PM at the HFC Bank National Stadium.
This event not only highlights the spirit of competition between the two teams but also fosters community support and pride within the Fiji Police Force and its allies. The match represents the culmination of preparation, hard work, and dedication from both sides, promising an exciting rugby showdown for all fans.
