A new champion will emerge this Saturday as Police face off against Capital Insurance Newtown Rugby Club in the final of the 2025 Ram Sami Nasinu Rugby Football Union Premier 15s Competition. The match is set to kickoff at 10:30 AM at St Marcellin Primary School Ground in Vatuwaqa.

The Police team is looking to secure their third title in four years, having claimed victories in 2022 and 2023. On the other hand, Newtown is eager to reclaim the trophy they last held in 2017.

Doni Wainiqolo, an executive committee member of the Nasinu Rugby Football Union, forecasts an exciting match, highlighting the contrasting styles of the two teams. Police brings a disciplined, experienced approach to the game, while Newtown demonstrated their dynamic offensive capabilities with a surprising semifinal victory over Portsmouth Kelland Brothers.

Wainiqolo expressed anticipation for a physical encounter, particularly in the forward engagements and believes that contributions from both teams’ benches will be pivotal to the outcome. “This final embodies the essence of Nasinu rugby, showcasing the best two teams in the competition going head-to-head,” he said.

The Ram Sami Nasinu RFU Premier 15s Competition, backed by major sponsor Ram Sami & Sons (Fiji) Ltd., serves as the premier domestic tournament promoting the sport of rugby while also acting as a platform for youth development in the community of Nasinu. Since its revival in 2016, the union has aimed to use rugby as a vehicle to address pressing social issues such as youth crime, health challenges, and educational disparities.

Local fans and families are encouraged to come out in support of grassroots rugby, ensuring an electric atmosphere for the final match. This spirit of community and competition reflects the deep-rooted traditions and values associated with rugby in Fiji, set to be on full display this Saturday.

With the stakes high and pride on the line, this final promises to be a memorable event for players, fans, and the broader Nasinu community.
