Solomon Islands kicked off their OFC U-19 Men’s Championship with a closely contested 1-0 win against Vanuatu in Apia today.
In the 17th minute, Solomon Islands Captain Paul Francis orchestrated the winning goal by slicing through Vanuatu’s defense and delivering a precise pass to James Laena, who fired a powerful shot past goalkeeper Joseph Nakou.
This victory marks an ideal start for the Solomon Islands in the tournament. Vanuatu, on the other hand, will aim to bounce back in their next match against Tahiti.
Solomon Islands are set to face Fiji next on Monday.
