BAT Fiji’s $1.2M Solar Leap: A Green Future Ahead!

British American Tobacco Fiji has entered into a partnership with Vision Energy Solutions to launch a $1.2 million solar project in Nabua and Nadi.

This initiative will involve the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and the Leaf Division in Nadi, establishing an 812kW power system designed to produce an annual total of 880,000 kWh of electricity for both locations.

Sam Dormor, the general manager of BAT Fiji, emphasized that the project marks a crucial step in their sustainability efforts. He stated, “In the last two years, we have made notable advancements and investments toward our sustainability agenda, affirming our dedication to combating climate change.”

Dormor highlighted that the collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions is anticipated to reduce electricity consumption by about 60% and lower carbon emissions at the Nabua site by approximately 32%. This aligns with BAT Fiji’s goal to achieve a 50% renewable energy share and a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030.

The installation of solar panels commenced earlier this week with an expected completion date set for January 2025.

Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, expressed pride in collaborating with BAT Fiji on this solar initiative. He remarked, “We have a talented local team that has continually strengthened its capabilities by successfully executing large-scale solar projects throughout the country.”

Prasad noted that Vision Energy Solutions manages all aspects of the project, from supply and installation to commissioning and servicing, ensuring comprehensive after-sales support. He added, “Our commitment lies in providing renewable energy for Fijian businesses while fostering a positive environmental impact through sustainable practices and community partnerships.”
