BAT Fiji’s $1.2M Solar Leap: A Game Changer in Sustainability!

British American Tobacco Fiji has finalized a contract with Vision Energy Solutions to implement a solar project worth $1.2 million in Nabua and Nadi. This initiative will involve the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s factory in Nabua and the Leaf Division in Nadi. The project will establish an 812kW power system that is expected to generate approximately 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for both locations.

Sam Dormor, general manager of BAT Fiji, noted that this solar initiative represents another step in the company’s sustainability efforts. He highlighted the significant advancements and investments BAT Fiji has made in the past two years towards its sustainability goals, emphasizing their commitment to tackling climate change.

Dormor stated that the collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions is projected to cut electricity usage by about 60% and lower carbon emissions by roughly 32% at the Nabua site. This project is in line with BAT Fiji’s ambitious objective to achieve 50% of its energy from renewable sources and reduce its carbon emissions by 50% by the year 2030.

Installation work for the solar project began earlier this week and is anticipated to be completed by January 2025. Vision Investments CEO, Sanjesh Prasad, expressed pride in partnering with BAT Fiji to deliver this solar initiative. He commended their local team for successfully executing large-scale solar projects across the nation and highlighted their commitment to renewable energy and positive environmental impact through sustainable practices and collaborative community partnerships.
