British American Tobacco (BAT) Fiji has entered into a $1.2 million contract with Vision Energy Solutions (VES) to implement a solar project aimed at decreasing the company’s electricity consumption and carbon emissions.
Sam Dormor, the general manager of BAT Fiji, emphasized that this solar initiative represents a significant step in the company’s commitment to sustainability. He stated, “This partnership with Vision Energy Solutions will enable us to cut our electricity usage by about 60 percent and lower our carbon emissions by approximately 32 percent at our Nabua site. This is in line with our goal of achieving 50 percent renewable energy and reducing our carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2030.”
Sanjesh Prasad, the CEO of Vision Investments, noted that Vision Energy Solutions was founded six years ago to meet the rising demand for solar energy solutions in Fiji. He expressed pride in the local team’s ability to successfully execute large-scale solar projects across the nation.
“Our local experts handle everything from supply and installation to commissioning and service, ensuring comprehensive after-sales support,” Prasad added. He also conveyed enthusiasm about partnering with BAT Fiji for the solar project.
The agreement includes the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s facilities at the Nabua Factory and the Leaf Division in Nadi. The project involves the implementation of an 812kW power system, which is projected to produce 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for both locations.
Installation commenced last week and is anticipated to be finalized by January of the following year.
