BAT Fiji Takes Major Step Towards Sustainability with $1.2M Solar Project!

British American Tobacco Fiji has finalized a contract with Vision Energy Solutions to implement a $1.2 million solar project in Nabua and Nadi.

The agreement entails the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and the Leaf Division in Nadi, creating an 812kW power system expected to produce 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for both locations.

Sam Dormor, general manager of BAT Fiji, highlighted that this solar initiative represents a key milestone in the company’s sustainability efforts.

“In the last two years, BAT Fiji has made significant strides and investments toward fulfilling our sustainability goals, emphasizing our commitment to tackling climate change,” Dormor stated.

He further emphasized that the collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions is projected to cut electricity consumption by around 60% and lower carbon emissions by approximately 32% at the Nabua site.

“This is in line with our objective to achieve 50% renewable energy usage and a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030,” he noted.

The installation process began this week, with completion anticipated by January 2025.

Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, expressed pride in partnering with BAT Fiji for this solar initiative.

“Our skilled local team has consistently delivered large-scale solar projects throughout the country,” he remarked.

Prasad added that the in-house management of the entire process, from supply and installation to commissioning and servicing, ensures comprehensive after-sales support.

“Vision Energy Solutions is dedicated to providing renewable energy for Fijian enterprises while making a positive environmental impact through collaboration, sustainable practices, and community partnerships.”
