BAT Fiji Takes Major Step Towards Sustainability with $1.2M Solar Project

British American Tobacco (BAT) Fiji has entered into an agreement with Vision Energy Solutions to implement a solar project worth $1.2 million in Nabua and Nadi. This initiative will involve the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and Leaf Division in Nadi, creating an 812kW power system that is expected to produce 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for both locations.

Sam Dormor, the general manager of BAT Fiji, highlighted that this solar project represents a significant step in the company’s sustainability efforts. He mentioned that the past two years have seen considerable progress and investment directed toward sustainability, underlining the company’s commitment to tackling climate change.

Dormor further noted that the partnership with Vision Energy Solutions is projected to decrease the electricity consumption at the Nabua site by about 60% and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 32%. This development aligns with BAT Fiji’s goal of achieving 50% reliance on renewable energy and halving its carbon emissions by the year 2030.

The installation work commenced earlier this week, with an expected completion date set for January 2025.

Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, expressed pride in collaborating with BAT Fiji on this solar project. He emphasized the strength of their local team, which has a track record of successfully managing large-scale solar projects throughout the country.

Prasad added that Vision Energy Solutions is dedicated to delivering renewable energy solutions for Fijian businesses while fostering a positive environmental impact through teamwork, sustainable methodologies, and community engagement.
