BAT Fiji Takes Green Leap with $1.2M Solar Project

British American Tobacco (BAT) Fiji has partnered with Vision Energy Solutions to implement a $1.2 million solar energy project in Nabua and Nadi.

The agreement will lead to the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua factory and the Leaf Division in Nadi, creating an 812kW power system designed to produce an annual total of 880,000 kWh of electricity for both locations.

Sam Dormor, the general manager of BAT Fiji, highlighted that this solar initiative aligns with the company’s sustainability objectives. Over the past two years, BAT Fiji has invested significantly in efforts to tackle climate change. Dormor indicated that this collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions aims to reduce electricity consumption by approximately 60% and cut carbon emissions by around 32% at the Nabua site. He reaffirmed the company’s goal to achieve 50% renewable energy usage and a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030.

Installation work on the project began earlier this week, with a completion target set for January 2025.

Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, expressed pride in collaborating with BAT Fiji on the solar initiative. He noted that Vision Energy Solutions has a skilled local team that has successfully executed large-scale solar projects nationwide. This team takes care of everything from supply and installation to commissioning and servicing, ensuring comprehensive after-sales support.

Prasad reiterated Vision Energy Solutions’ commitment to delivering renewable energy for Fijian businesses, fostering a positive environmental impact through sustainable practices and community partnerships.
