BAT Fiji Takes Bold Step Towards Sustainability with $1.2M Solar Project

British American Tobacco (BAT) Fiji has entered into a $1.2 million agreement with Vision Energy Solutions (VES) to implement a solar project aimed at reducing the company’s electricity consumption and carbon emissions.

Sam Dormor, the general manager of BAT Fiji, stated that this solar initiative is an important step in their sustainability efforts. He emphasized that the collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions is expected to cut electricity usage by about 60% and carbon emissions by around 32% at their Nabua site. This project is part of BAT Fiji’s goal to utilize 50% renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions by 50% by the year 2030.

Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, noted that Vision Energy Solutions was founded six years ago to meet the increasing demand for renewable energy in Fiji, specifically through solar technology. Prasad expressed pride in their local team, which has effectively delivered large-scale solar projects throughout the nation.

The project will involve the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and Leaf Division in Nadi. A power system of 812kW is set to generate approximately 880,000 kWh of electricity for both locations annually. The installation commenced last week and is projected to be completed by January of the following year.
