British American Tobacco (BAT) Fiji has entered into a $1.2 million agreement with Vision Energy Solutions (VES) to implement a solar project aimed at decreasing the company’s electricity consumption and carbon footprint.
Sam Dormor, the general manager of BAT Fiji, stated that this solar initiative is a significant step in the company’s sustainability mission. He noted that the collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions is projected to lower electricity usage by about 60% and cut carbon emissions by roughly 32% at the Nabua site. This effort is in line with BAT’s goal of achieving 50% of its energy from renewable sources and halving carbon emissions by the year 2030.
Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, shared that Vision Energy Solutions was founded six years ago to meet the increasing need for renewable energy options in Fiji, particularly through solar technology. He highlighted the strength and capability of their local team, which has successfully executed numerous large-scale solar projects nationwide.
The partnership will involve the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and Leaf Division in Nadi. The project will feature an 812 kW power system designed to produce approximately 880,000 kWh of electricity per year for the two locations. Installation commenced last week and is slated for completion by January next year.
