BAT Fiji Powers Up with $1.2M Solar Project

British American Tobacco Fiji has entered into a contract with Vision Energy Solutions for a solar project worth $1.2 million in Nabua and Nadi. This initiative involves the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and the Leaf Division in Nadi. The project will set up an 812kW power system capable of producing approximately 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for both locations.

Sam Dormor, the general manager of BAT Fiji, stated that this solar project represents a key milestone in the company’s sustainability efforts. He highlighted the significant progress and investment made in the past two years toward addressing climate change. Dormor noted that this collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions aims to reduce electricity consumption by around 60% and cut carbon emissions by approximately 32% at the Nabua site. This initiative aligns with BAT Fiji’s goal to utilize 50% renewable energy and to achieve a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030.

Installation of the solar system began earlier this week, with completion anticipated by January 2025. Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, expressed pride in partnering with BAT Fiji for this solar initiative. He emphasized the capabilities of their local team, which has successfully managed large-scale solar projects across the nation. Prasad noted that Vision Energy Solutions is dedicated to delivering renewable energy solutions for Fijian businesses while promoting environmental responsibility through collaboration and sustainable practices.
